Meet EcoFlow A slim home battery with a 15-year warranty and a fire-prevention module built in.

  • 15 years of warranty cover

EcoFlow's Australian warranty runs for 15 years on the PowerOcean battery, which is covered to keep at least 70% of its capacity.

Cover ends sooner at 6,000 cycles. Ask your installer to confirm they're EcoFlow-authorised; the warranty requires it.

  • Fire protection inside the system

An active aerosol fire-prevention module is built in, and EcoFlow says it reacts within 7 seconds of detecting flames.

  • Ready for rain and frost

    IP65 sealing, a self-heating pad and a -20 °C to 50 °C working range suit inside or outside walls.

Packs that warm themselves up for frosty mornings.

The company behind it

EcoFlow, founded in 2017 by battery engineers, makes portable power stations and home batteries.

  • Founded 2017

EcoFlow says it began in 2017 as the idea of a group of battery engineers.

  • Global user base

EcoFlow says it has more than 5 million users across 140-plus countries and regions.

  • Australian warranty entity

EcoFlow Australia Pty Ltd and its affiliates issue the Australian PowerOcean home-battery warranty.

Is EcoFlow right for your home? Fit and warranty checks

A good fit if…

  • Households building solar and battery together, where choosing EcoFlow’s hybrid inverter costs nothing extra
  • Buyers who weight the warranty term and the safety engineering above a long local reputation
  • Sites where the battery has to live outdoors and a separately mounted fire accessory would be awkward
  • Homes on a time-of-use or dynamic retail plan that will actually use tariff-aware charging
  • People happy to be early on a brand in exchange for the hardware specification

Consider the limitations

  • You want to keep an existing solar inverter — PowerOcean packs run on EcoFlow’s own hybrid and nothing else
  • You want a brand with years of Australian warranty claims behind it before you commit
  • You want a wide pool of local installers who have commissioned the product many times
  • You want an independent body of owner reviews to read before deciding

The EcoFlow range

PowerOcean LFP battery packs

Four pack sizes, cascading on one hybrid inverter

The same battery module repeated — the size on the quote is a count of packs, not a different product.

PowerOcean hybrid inverter (single-phase)

Three output sizes

The unit the packs stack under; the battery does not work without it.

PowerOcean hybrid inverter (three-phase)

Larger outputs for three-phase homes

A separate inverter family; three-phase reached the Australian approvals later than single-phase.

EcoFlow specifications and source documents

EcoFlow is the camping-and-blackout power-station brand moving into permanent home storage. PowerOcean is a stack: an EcoFlow hybrid inverter with LFP battery packs cascading underneath it, floor-standing or wall-mounted, rated for outdoor use with an aerosol fire-prevention module integrated rather than bolted on. The company was started in 2017 by battery engineers out of DJI and is based in Shenzhen, with the home-battery range only reaching Australia in late 2025. So the buying decision here is unusually lopsided: the hardware specification and the warranty term are at the strong end of the market, and the Australian track record is close to nothing.

  • Current EcoFlow line-up in Australia: PowerOcean EF BD-5.1-S1 (4.8 kWh usable), PowerOcean EF BD-10.2-S1 (9.7 kWh usable), PowerOcean EF BD-15.3-S1 (14.5 kWh usable), PowerOcean EF BD-20.4-S1 (19.4 kWh usable). Source
  • EcoFlow pairs with its own hybrid inverter: new solar-and-battery installs use one unit; a retrofit means replacing the existing inverter. Source
  • Usable capacity runs from 4.8 kWh to 19.4 kWh. Source
  • Capacity can be added later without replacing the inverter. Source
  • The manufacturer warranty is 15 years, with 70% of original capacity guaranteed at the end of it. Source
  • It works with EcoFlow's own inverters only. Source
  • Listed models are on the Clean Energy Council approved battery list. Source
  • EcoFlow requires a manufacturer-certified installer for the warranty to hold. Source
  • All four PowerOcean packs in this record sit on the Clean Energy Council approved battery list, which is the hardware condition of the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program; the discount is applied upfront by an accredited installer or retailer rather than claimed afterwards. Source

EcoFlow questions, answered

Who is EcoFlow, and how long has it sold home batteries in Australia?
EcoFlow was founded in 2017 by battery engineers who came out of DJI, and built its name on portable power stations sold worldwide before moving into fixed home storage. SolarQuotes records the home-battery range arriving in Australia in late 2025. The manufacturing pedigree is real; the local history of installed, warrantied home systems is very short, and that is the real trade-off.
Is EcoFlow eligible for the federal battery rebate?
The PowerOcean packs in our record are on the Clean Energy Council approved battery list, which is the hardware gate for the Cheaper Home Batteries Program. The install still has to qualify: solar connected, usable capacity inside the program band, an accredited installer, and no earlier claim at the address. Check the exact model string on your quote against the register, because EcoFlow’s Australian warranty covers a newer line the register does not.
Can I add an EcoFlow battery to the solar inverter I already have?
No. PowerOcean packs are built to stack under EcoFlow’s own hybrid inverter and are not sold to pair with other brands. On a new solar-and-battery install that costs you nothing, because you were choosing an inverter anyway. On a retrofit it means your existing inverter comes out, and a good quote shows that as a plain swap rather than burying it in the total.
Does the long warranty actually mean much from a new brand?
A warranty is only as good as the company still being here and still supporting the product. EcoFlow has an Australian office and a local support line, and its portable-power business gives it revenue outside home storage. But there is no body of Australian warranty claims to judge yet. Treat the term as a genuine strength and the claims process as untested, and weight it accordingly.
Why does EcoFlow care who installs it?
Its Australian warranty policy excludes damage where the owner had the system installed by someone EcoFlow has not authorised. That puts your installer inside the warranty rather than beside it. Ask for confirmation of authorisation in writing before you sign, because discovering the gap at claim time is the expensive way to find out.
Will an EcoFlow system run my house in a blackout?
The hybrid inverter supports backup, but only for the circuits wired to the backup output, and how much of the house that covers is a design decision made at quote stage. Ask for the backed-up circuits listed by name, and check the inverter size against what you expect to run — an outdoor-rated stack in the side yard does not by itself keep the kitchen going.
What does the built-in fire-prevention module change?
The Australian datasheet lists an active aerosol fire-prevention module as integrated into the pack, alongside an outdoor-rated enclosure and LFP cells. It does not make a battery risk-free and no one should sell it that way. What it changes practically is siting: fewer bolt-on accessories to place and maintain, and more freedom about where on a tight block the stack can go.
