Solar Select FAQ — asked already, answered here.
Solar Select is free for homeowners, routes every enquiry to a maximum of three vetted installers, and is paid by installers per qualified enquiry. The questions below cover matching, rebates, installer vetting, and what happens after the quote.
How Solar Select works
- Is Solar Select free for homeowners?
- Yes. Homeowners pay nothing. Installers pay a small fee per qualified lead — which is why we limit each enquiry to a maximum of three installers. We're paid for quality, not volume.
- How are installers vetted?
- Every installer we onboard is vetted — typically 2+ years in business with a track record of decent reviews, and active accreditation with a listed manufacturer (Tesla, Enphase, SolarEdge, Sigenergy, Fronius) where the job calls for it. All applications are reviewed manually.
- Will I be spammed by 20 different installers?
- No. We route each enquiry to a maximum of three installers. After that, no further installers receive your details. This is a structural rule, not a marketing promise.
- How are installers matched to me?
- Based on your postcode, the type of system you want (solar, battery, or both), and which installers actively service your area. You only see installers who can genuinely quote your job.
- How long until I receive quotes?
- Matched installers typically contact homeowners within 24–48 hours. You'll get up to three quotes from there.
- Are the quotes obligation-free?
- Yes. You're under no obligation to accept any quote. Compare them, ask questions, walk away if you want. You're in control.
- What if I'm not happy with the installers I'm matched with?
- Let us know. We track installer quality and can re-route your enquiry if there's a genuine issue with the match.
Rebates
- What rebates apply in my state?
- Two federal programs apply in every state: STCs on solar panels and the Cheaper Home Batteries Program on batteries. State rebates that currently stack with federal: NSW VPP Incentive, WA Residential Battery Scheme, NT Home and Business Battery Scheme, ACT Sustainable Household Scheme (loan). VIC, QLD, SA, TAS no longer run state rebates — the federal pair is the full stack.
- How is the rebate applied — do I pay full price and claim back?
- For STCs (both solar and battery), the rebate is applied as an upfront discount at the quote stage by your installer. You don’t pay full price and claim back. The NT and ACT schemes work differently — see the NT and ACT rebate pages for the timing detail.
- When does the federal battery rebate get smaller?
- The STC factor for batteries steps down on 1 May each year (8.4 → 6.8 in 2026). STC values on solar panels also fall each 1 January as the deeming period shrinks. The earlier in the year you install, the larger the rebate.
- Can I claim the battery rebate twice if I install two batteries?
- No. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate is one per address, permanently. If a previous owner of the property claimed it, the new owner cannot.
Installer quality and vetting
- How are installers vetted?
- Every installer we onboard is vetted — typically 2+ years in business with a track record of decent reviews, plus active accreditation with a listed manufacturer (Tesla, Enphase, SolarEdge, Sigenergy, Fronius) where the job calls for it. All applications are reviewed manually.
- What happens if I’m unhappy with my matched installers?
- Tell us. We track installer quality. If there’s a genuine issue with the match — they didn’t call, they quoted off-scope, or the workmanship was substandard — we can re-route your enquiry and the installer accountability is recorded.
- Why do you charge installers per lead?
- It’s how we keep matching free for homeowners while having skin in the game on lead quality. If an installer pays for a lead and the lead was genuinely uncontactable, the installer is refunded — they don’t lose money on broken matches.
- Why max 3 installers and not more?
- When 10+ installers chase one enquiry, the cheapest quote wins almost every time. That selects for the cheapest installer, not the best installer. Capping at 3 lets quality installers compete on design, warranty, and service — and stops you getting spam-called for weeks.
Quotes and what happens next
- How long until I receive quotes?
- Matched installers typically contact homeowners within 24–48 hours. You’ll get up to 3 quotes from there.
- Are the quotes obligation-free?
- Yes. Compare them, ask questions, walk away if you want. You’re in control. Solar Select doesn’t take a cut of the system you buy.
- What if the installer doesn’t turn up or follow through?
- Tell us — we track installer quality history. Repeated no-shows or substandard workmanship gets installers removed from the network.
- Can I see who’s in the Solar Select installer network?
- We don’t publish public installer leaderboards (other directories do — we don’t play that game because public rankings get gamed). You see your matched installers after you submit your enquiry, before any contact happens.
