Meet Huawei A quiet, fan-free stack where every 5 kWh module is managed on its own.

  • Each module works independently

A built-in optimiser manages each module separately, which Huawei says lifts usable energy by over 10% across its life.

Huawei's own lab figure. It says real results can vary.

  • 5 kWh modules join old ones

Huawei says its 5 kWh modules join older ones later; charge levels sync after one cycle.

Sold new now as iStore; Huawei expansion modules until 31 Dec 2026, while stocks last.

  • Near-silent, with no fans

It cools by natural convection, with no fans, and runs below 29 dB: quiet enough near living areas.

  • 10-year warranty, all sizes listed

Huawei's warranty policy covers the battery packs in Australia for 10 years to 60% capacity, and all three sizes are approved-listed.

Cover can end sooner once a pack reaches 16.45 MWh of throughput.

The company behind it

Huawei is a technology group founded in 1987, selling its solar and battery range in Australia as FusionSolar.

  • Founded 1987

Founded in 1987 and 100% privately owned by its employees, Huawei says.

  • Global support network

Huawei lists 160+ global technical support and spare-parts centres for its solar business.

  • Australian listing holder

Huawei Technologies (Australia) Pty Ltd holds the approved-battery listing for the LUNA2000-S0 range.

Is Huawei right for your home? Fit and warranty checks

A good fit if…

  • Homes already running, or happy to run, a Huawei SUN2000 hybrid inverter
  • Owners who want a quiet battery mounted close to living areas
  • Buyers who value a very large parent company behind the warranty
  • Households that will size the stack properly now rather than expand later

Consider the limitations

  • You want to keep an existing non-Huawei inverter — this battery replaces it
  • You need seamless blackout switchover for medical or sensitive equipment
  • You want the badge that is easiest to buy and service locally today — that is currently iStore, not Huawei
  • You would rather not depend on cloud monitoring to keep warranty cover intact

The Huawei range

LUNA2000-S0 battery module

One to three identical modules per stack

Each module carries its own management electronics, so a single fault isolates rather than taking the stack down.

Power control module

Sits on top of the stack, sized by module count

Sets how hard the battery can charge and discharge; a single-module stack delivers less than a two- or three-module one.

SUN2000 hybrid inverter and backup box

Single- or three-phase, backup hardware separate

The battery only pairs with Huawei’s hybrid inverter, and blackout supply needs the separate backup box in the quote.

Huawei specifications and source documents

The LUNA2000 is a DC-coupled battery built as a tower: a power control module on top and one to three identical battery modules beneath it, each able to keep working if a neighbour faults. It only runs on Huawei’s own SUN2000 hybrid inverters, so the inverter decision is made for you the moment you choose it. The wrinkle for Australian buyers is the badge. The same hardware is now mostly sold here as iStore, and Huawei-badged stock is thinner on the ground, so the practical questions are about supply and who answers the phone in year six rather than about the cells.

  • Current Huawei line-up in Australia: LUNA2000-5-S0 (5 kWh usable), LUNA2000-10-S0 (10 kWh usable), LUNA2000-15-S0 (15 kWh usable). Source
  • Usable capacity runs from 5 kWh to 15 kWh. Source
  • Capacity can be added later without replacing the inverter. Source
  • The manufacturer warranty is 10 years, with 60% of original capacity guaranteed at the end of it. Source
  • It works with Huawei's own inverters only. Source
  • Listed models are on the Clean Energy Council approved battery list. Source
  • The LUNA2000-5, 10 and 15-S0 systems sit on the Clean Energy Council approved battery list, the hardware gate for the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which applies to systems from 5 kWh to 100 kWh connected to new or existing solar PV. Source

Huawei questions, answered

Is the Huawei LUNA2000 still sold in Australia?
Huawei’s Australian site still lists the LUNA2000-S0 and a find-an-installer tool, but SolarQuotes notes the battery is no longer sold here directly and that the fully compatible iStore badge is what most retailers now stock. Treat any Huawei-badged quote as a supply question first: ask where the stock comes from and which company will process a warranty claim on it.
Is the LUNA2000 eligible for the federal battery rebate?
The LUNA2000-5, 10 and 15-S0 systems appear on the Clean Energy Council approved battery list, which is the hardware gate for the Cheaper Home Batteries Program. The rest of the eligibility sits with the install: solar connected, a usable capacity inside the program band, an SAA-accredited installer, and no earlier claim at the address.
Do I need a Huawei inverter to run it?
Yes. The LUNA2000 is DC-coupled to Huawei’s SUN2000 hybrid inverters and is not offered as a stand-alone battery for other brands. On a new install that is one decision fewer. On a retrofit it means your existing inverter comes out, which a good quote will show as a line item rather than bury.
What is different about the modules being independent?
Each battery module has its own management electronics, so if one develops a fault the others keep running and the faulty one can be swapped without pulling the stack apart. SolarQuotes’ review singles this out as the design’s real strength. It also means a replacement module has to be matched to the ones already on the wall, which is a handover detail worth recording.
Will it run my house in a blackout?
Only with the separate backup box in the quote, and only for the circuits it is wired to carry. SolarQuotes’ review reports the switchover takes a moment rather than being seamless, and that the backup box derates in heat, so mount it in shade and put sensitive equipment on its own protection. Ask for the backed-up circuits listed by name.
Can I add capacity later?
A stack takes up to three modules, and larger homes run more than one stack, so expansion is designed in. In practice it means sourcing a module that matches the existing ones and checking the power control module still suits the new count. Owners on SolarQuotes who started small tend to say they should have bought the extra module up front.
How much does the app matter with this battery?
More than most, because Huawei’s warranty policy expects the system to stay connected to its FusionSolar platform so firmware updates reach the cells, and cover for cell damage narrows if it is left offline. The app itself is well regarded by owners on SolarQuotes. Make sure the dongle is paired and the account is in your name before the installer leaves.
