What moves the number on a Powerwall quote

• Backup scope. Backing up the whole home is a different job from backing up a few essential circuits. It usually means more switchboard work, sometimes a board upgrade.
• Single-phase vs three-phase. Three-phase is common in newer builds and larger properties, and backup across three phases is a bigger install than across one.
• Switchboard condition. Older boards may need upgrading before anything can be added. This is the line item most often missing from the cheapest quote.
• Where the unit goes. Cable run length, wall construction, indoor or outdoor, shade and clearance requirements all change labour.
• Whether solar goes in at the same time. A combined install shares scaffolding, travel and commissioning; a retrofit to existing panels does not.
• Rebate treatment. The federal battery rebate is delivered as an upfront discount by your installer, so whether a quote shows the price before or after it changes the headline by thousands. It is also tapered by capacity: a second Powerwall earns 60% of the rate, not the full rate, so a two-unit quote showing a flat doubled rebate has the maths wrong.
• Network conditions. Some networks impose export limits or require pre-approval for batteries, which can change the design after quoting.

How to compare three quotes properly
