You will see cheaper. Aggressive metro offers around $12,000 before rebate exist, and some are legitimate volume pricing from good operators. Some are not. The number alone can’t tell you which — the installer behind it can.

Why quotes for the “same battery” differ by thousands

  • Controller choice. Single-phase 8/10/12 kW versus three-phase changes the base cost before any storage is added.

  • Switchboard and site work. Older switchboards, long cable runs, and difficult mounting positions add real labour.
  • Backup scope. Whole-home backup versus an essential-loads circuit is a design decision with a price attached.
  • The EV module. Adding the 12.5/25 kW DC charging module changes the quote substantially — make sure you’re comparing with or without it, not one of each.

The clean way to compare: divide the after-rebate price by usable kWh, confirm the scope matches (backup circuits, switchboard work, EV module in or out), and then weigh the installers — trading history, Sigenergy accreditation, reviews, written workmanship warranty. A $500 saving is not a saving if the installer isn’t there in year 4.

What to ask before you sign

  • “What exactly is included?” Controller model, module count, backup design, switchboard work — in writing, on the quote.
  • “What does the rebate line show?” The federal rebate tapers above 14 kWh; a flat rebate figure on a 20 kWh quote deserves a tier breakdown.
  • “Are you Sigenergy-accredited, and who handles a warranty claim?” The right answer is “we do, direct with Sigenergy”.
  • “What’s the workmanship warranty — in writing?” 10 years minimum, signed, not a website promise.
