What was actually recalled
On 19 November 2025 a voluntary recall was published for Sigenergy’s single-phase SigenStor EC 8.0, 10.0 and 12.0 kW energy controllers sold in Australia between 4 March and 18 November 2025. The issue: AC plugs that could overheat and become damaged, posing a fire risk. Sigenergy reported roughly 100 affected inverters nationally out of a much larger installed base.
The response was fast and, by recall standards, competent: a remote over-the-air update limited output in high-current scenarios while replacements were arranged, affected owners received a free updated AC plug, and Sigenergy added two extra years of warranty — 12 total — for affected customers. Three-phase controllers and every battery module were outside the recall entirely.
The part of the story that matters for buyers
The failure mode centred on the AC plug’s termination — ferrule and crimping work performed at installation. Sigenergy publicly pointed to installation practices; whatever the final split of responsibility, the engineering lesson is unambiguous: the identical hardware was safe on thousands of walls and hazardous on a hundred, and the difference was the quality of the hands that fitted it.
That is the pattern across the industry, not a Sigenergy quirk — the Clean Energy Regulator’s 2026 battery-install inspections found more than 60% of inspected installations “substandard” on their criteria, most of them using tier-1 hardware. Brand choice gets the attention; workmanship carries the risk.

The 10-year warranty’s fine print
- The headline: 10 years on the energy controller and battery modules, with capacity warranted to at least 70% at year ten.
- The gotcha — “whichever comes first”: capacity is warranted to 70% OR a defined energy throughput per module (published figures around 15.85 MWh for the 5 kWh module and 23.77 MWh for the 8 kWh). Cycle the battery hard — daily deep cycling plus aggressive VPP trading — and the throughput cap can arrive before year ten.
- Claims go through your installer first. The manufacturer warranty is real, but the path to it runs through whoever installed the system. A disconnected phone number in year 6 turns a valid warranty into a project.
- Keep the paperwork: commissioning records, serials and the installer’s written workmanship warranty. Rebate audits and warranty claims both want them.
If you’re buying now: confirm the quoted controller carries the post-recall plug revision (any current stock does), and ask the installer directly how many SigenStor systems they’ve commissioned and who handles a claim in year 5. Confident, specific answers are the product you’re actually buying.
